Customers who used their credit cards at the New Credit Variety Gas Bar between Dec. 16 and Dec. 28 are asked to check their Visa or MasterCard statements for potential fraud.
The owner of the business called Haldimand OPP after learning that someone at the store was abusing customers’ credit cards.
“It appears the customers attending the store to purchase gas or merchandise had their credit cards swiped several times without their knowledge,” Const. Mark Foster, spokesperson for the Haldimand OPP, said in a news release Sunday. “Thus far it appears that 39 credit cards have been compromised with an estimated $10,000 being stolen.”
Police have identified possible suspects and are asking for the public’s assistance.
Card holders who believe their credit may have been abused at New Credit Variety Gas Bar are asked to contact the Haldimand OPP if they find anything unusual on their monthly statement. Those contacting the OPP in connection with this incident are asked to cite incident number LP103463333.
New Credit Var iety Gas Bar is located on the First Line of the New Credit First Nations Territory north of Springvale. Visa Canada and Master- Card are aiding the Haldimand OPP in their investigation.
