Dad gets 40 years in prison for son’s death

A man convicted in the beating death of his infant son was sentenced today to a 40-year prison sentence, according to a news release from the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

Travis Anderson,27, was convicted in November of manslaughter and child abuse resulting in death after his 20-day-old son, Sean, died in December 2009. The infant suffered severe head injuries and died after neither Anderson nor the child’s mother, 28-year-old Crystal Eccleston, sought immediate medical care for him.

Sean Anderson died in Children’s Hospital four days later, after his parents waited about seven hours to seek help.

Anderson had faced up to 48 years in prison, and Chief Deputy District Attorney Bonnie Benedetti argued for the maximum sentence, citing not only the brutal injuries inflicted on the baby but also the lengthy delay in seeking medical attention, Denver District Attorney’s Office Spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said in a statement.

Eccleston is currently serving a 14-year sentence in the Colorado Department of Corrections for child abuse resulting in death.
