Virginia Beach detectives have announced they have identified a man accused of a sexual assault and homicide, 28 years after the crime was committed. In 1986,  Carol Morrison’s body was found floating in Hell’s Point Creek, near the bridge on Sandbridge Road. Police say she had been sexually assaulted and brutally murdered. During that time DNA technology did not possess the ability to enter profiles into a DNA Data Bank and search for suspects. As technology progressed, detectives reopened the case several times. In December 2014, DNA samples were submitted again. detectives were then able to link the DNA samples to a former Virginia Beach resident who had moved to Texas. In July, Virginia Beach Police learned from authorities in Burleson County Texas that the subject had died. It was also determined that this man made statements to persons known to him that corroborated the results of this DNA sample. The name of the subject has not been released.
