DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA — According to the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Deputy Charles Tharpe was arrested on Tuesday. Tharpe is charged with computer theft, computer invasion of privacy, theft by taking and violation of oath of office.
The arrest came after an investigation by the GBI which was requested by Sheriff Kevin Sproul. According to the press release, Sproul received information that Tharpe may have been accessing and releasing information from the computer database at the Dougherty County jail without proper authority.
Tharpe is on administrative leave without pay and is being held without bond.
