Dougherty deputy arrested

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The Dougherty Co. Sheriff’s Office announced today that one of its own, Deputy Charles Tharpe, was arrested Tuesday.

Tharpe is charged with computer theft, computer invasion of privacy, theft by taking, and violation of oath of office.


Sheriff Kevin Sproul had requested an investigation buy the GBI after he suspected that Tharpe may have released information from the jail database without authority.

Tharpe is on administrative leave with out pay, and is being held without bond.
