Hacker Rings Up Huge Phone Bill for Hinsdale Church

The congregation at a suburban church may have to say extra prayers to help solve a phone problem.

The Unitarian Church of Hinsdale got socked with a $27,000 phone bill for thousands of calls made to Libya over a two-day period in November, reported the Chicago Tribune.

But the calls apparently were the work of a hacker who somehow got access to the church’s phone system, according to the church’s minister.

ATT apparently noticed the activity, the minister said, and stopped the calls, but only after the enormous bill had been rung up.

The church is in negotiations with ATT to try to lower the amount the church must pay.
