Hacker scores in Bay City Western Warriors’ 1-0 soccer win

AUBURN — Jennifer Hacker scored 12 minutes into the second half Thursday night to lift host Bay City Western to a 1-0 victory over Lapeer East to open the girls’ soccer season.

Western’s Shanna McQuarter sent a crossing pass into the middle of the field to Mackenzie Brownell, who sent a quick pass to Hacker in the 6-yard box.

“She put it inside the far post,” said Warriors’ coach Jacque Robinson.

Goalie Paige Valliere made five saves for Western, which had eight shots on goal.

“We had a couple breakaways (in the first half) and just couldn’t finish,” Robinson said. “It was kind of a physical game.”

The Warriors (1-0) play next Wednesday at Freeland.
