MASON CITY | An Illinois woman has been given a deferred judgment after pleading guilty to her role in a credit card fraud scheme in Mason City. Shemea Hicks, 27, Riverdale, Illinois, pleaded guilty to one count of illegal use of a scanning device, a Class D felony. She was put on probation for three years. Hicks and co-defendants Tanesha Barrow, 33, North Little Rock, Arkansas; Charneice Chatman, 29, Chicago; and Naomi White, 35, Chicago, were arrested Oct. 13, 2014. According to Cerro Gordo County District Court records, they used a forged credit card multiple times that day to make purchases at the Mason City Walmart. Officers were dispatched to Walmart after the store reported having female shoplifters. The women led officers on a chase from Cerro Gordo County to Hamilton County before they were apprehended. All four women originally were charged with ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony, and four counts of credit card fraud, an aggravated misdemeanor. Barrow, the alleged driver of the getaway vehicle, was also charged with eluding or attempting to elude while participating in a felony, a Class D felony.
