PLATTSBURGH — A drug dealer is heading to prison for being part of a cocaine pipeline and then repeatedly assaulting jail staff after his arrest.

Malcolm White was sentenced this week to 12 years behind bars for both the drug and assault crimes.

The 24-year-old Brooklyn man returned to Clinton County Court before Judge Patrick McGill this week and was also sentenced to two years of post-release supervision, court clerks said.

White has been in custody at Clinton County Jail for nearly a year, after he was arrested for his part in a drug pipeline between New York City and the North Country.

He was arrested after authorities raided the Lyon Mountain home from which he was suspected of selling crack and cocaine.

The felony drug charges were lodged against him after he sold cocaine to a confidential police informant, which initiated the raid after several months of investigation.

Once housed at Clinton County Jail, White found himself facing a series of new charges after he repeatedly assaulted correction officers there.

The first incident happened about two weeks after White was jailed, when he bit an officer while being transported inside the jail.

In late March, White assaulted another officer. He then attacked and wrestled with three others the following month.

The most recent attack happened in mid-November, when he beat a female officer and left her briefly hospitalized.

He recently pleaded guilty in both the drug and assault cases.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Timothy Blatchley previously told the Press-Republican that White would be sentenced to seven years in prison on each of the five assault charges but that the term would run concurrent to the 12-year drug sentence.

White, who has been deemed a second-felony offender, must also pay restitution. He had already been moved from County Jail by Tuesday morning, but it was unclear at that time where he is now being housed.
