Job Description

As a Linux System Administrator at a service oriented hosting company such as Rackspace, it is inevitable that customers will be asking questions via tickets or via phone calls. Support at Rackspace is dubbed Fanatical Support® and focuses on the customer experience rather than the quantity of issues solved.

We are seeking rationally humble and ambitious administrators who can work in a self-assured professional manner to accomplish the needs of customers rather than follow a scripted path. An independent environment coupled with close team interactions allows creative solutions to problems that aren't conventional when unconventional solutions are required.

We need skilled, dedicated, effective administrators to help provide our special brand of support, Fanatical Support®. Racker's, Rackspace employees, are empowered to independently solve customer issues with creative solutions and professionally maintain communication with customers. Without scripted interaction, Rackers must be quick-witted to aptly interact with customers to solve a wide variety of problems.

Role Duties

– Field customer phone calls while working tickets to solve customer issues
– Work with small and medium businesses
– Collaborate with fellow administrators
– Work with a variety of technologies

Job Requirements

Must Haves

– Familiar with Red Hat and LAMP software
– Excellent problem solving skills [Same as below?]
– Basic knowledge of and troubleshooting ability with the following: hardware, databases, networking, web services
– Exemplary written and verbal communication skills

Nice to Haves

– Certificates (e.g. RHCE, RHCSA, Linux+, etc)
– Programming experience (i.e. BASH, Python, Ruby, PHP, etc)
– Hosting Experience
– Baccalaureate degree in Computer Science or related field (i.e. Information Science, Engineering, etc)
– Knowledge of other Linux distributions (i.e. Ubuntu, Suse, Gentoo, etc)
