A 46-year-old Sheboygan man was sentenced to three years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty last fall to possessing child pornography.
Daniel J. Wagner, of 1514 N. 11th St., was initially charged with 14 felony counts of possession of child pornography after a computer technician discovered lewd photos of children on a laptop that Wagner had brought in for service.
Wagner later accepted a plea agreement under which he pled guilty to three counts and the 11 others were dismissed.
Along with the prison term, Judge L. Edward Stengel sentenced Wagner to three years probation. Wagner was also fined $1,750 and must register as sex offender and submit a DNA sample.
Under the plea deal, the District Attorney’s Office had recommended the three-year prison term, which is the presumptive minimum sentence under state statute.
A criminal complaint said Wagner brought his computer to Best Buy in Sheboygan because it had viruses and wasn’t working properly. The laptop had an image of child pornography as the desktop photo, and the technician found similar pictures when he tried to change the photo.
The technician notified his manager, who contacted police. Police arrested Wagner when he returned to pick up his computer.
