Man Steals Jerome City Patrol Car

Jerome, ID (KMVT TV) – Local law enforcement agencies had their hands full tracking down the driver of a stolen police car.

Officials said that 38–year-old Guadalupe Cruz Vasquez went into the Jerome County Jail on Monday evening asking to be deported.

But, jailers told Vasquez he wouldn’t be deported because he was a legal citizen.

A short time later, Vasquez allegedly broke the driver’s side window of a Jerome City patrol car and stole the vehicle.

Officials said the vehicle was recovered near Carey with Vasquez inside.

According to Jerome Police Chief, Dan Hall, the keys were inside the vehicle which was parked behind the police station.

He’s being charged with grand theft auto, two counts of stolen firearms and burglary.

It’s reported that Vasquez has prior mental issues.
