Zachary Jones, son of Charleston Mayor Danny Jones, pleaded not guilty to charges alleging he tried to buy $1,600 worth of gift cards with a stolen credit card number. Kanawha County Circuit Judge Duke Bloom arraigned Jones in a Wednesday arraignment hearing and set his trial for March 16. Police alleged Jones, 25, of Bays Drive, tried to pick up eight $200 gift cards at the Charleston Town Center mall customer service center. The card belonged to Douglas Lins, who had recently traveled to West Virginia on business and who told police the charges were fraudulent. The criminal complaint states Jones fled when a police officer approached him. However, officers caught up and arrested him. On Wednesday, Jones pleaded not guilty to taking the identity of another and fraud and related activity in connection with an access device. “I’m disappointed to see you back in court,” Bloom told Jones. Jones’ attorney Jesse Forbes asked Bloom to continue his client’s $50,000 bond with the condition that he participate in an in-patient drug treatment facility. “He’s doing well at the Healing Place,” Forbes said.
