New political tech startup: Votus, Inc.

“I don’t think that people in this country have a meaningful way to engage with their government and part of that is because we need a new system and a new way of doing things –that became the birth of Votus,” says third year law student Brandon Harris.

votusAs President of Votus Inc., a new tech start-up that is dedicated to providing a voice for American citizens within the political arena, Harris says his interest in politics prompted him to help found the company. Votus enhances political engagement by helping its users find their network based on a series of questions on a broad range of political issues from gun legislation to free market economies. By allowing its users to configure their specific ‘V-Score’ based on prescribed questions, users can easily assess political candidates. Harris says that, “we haven’t really figured out how to create a government in the 21st century” and with social networking websites, such as Twitter and Instagram, steadily changing the way we socialize with each other, Votus brings something radically different to the social media square: political engagement.

In addition to comparing users’ V-score with political candidates, Votus users will also be able to compare their score with friends and politicians. Votus is open to any American citizen that wants to interact with their government. “We are trying to make it easier for people to see whom they should really vote for based on their V-Score”, says Harris who denounces the persuasion of political parties and media pundits who often use verbose language. By transforming the way people interact with American politics through social media, Votus hopes to reverse the current political climate and make public opinion count again. Votus, Inc. launched on August 1, 2014.
