New York, NY (PRWEB) January 11, 2011
The NYC Turing Fellows Program officially launched today. The program seeks to match outstanding computer science and engineering students from universities across the U.S. and Canada with leading technology startups in New York City for paid summer internships.
The NYC Turing Fellows Program is co-organized by Warren Lee, venture partner at Canaan Partners; Brian Hirsch, managing partner of GSA Venture Partners; Mike Hudack, CEO and co-founder of blip.tv; and Brendan Dickinson, associate at Canaan Partners and MBA student at NYU Stern.
“New York City continues to grow as a center for innovation, and the NYC Turing Fellows Program will build on that momentum by attracting some of the country’s top engineering and computer science talent to local ventures,” said Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. “Alongside our efforts to facilitate the development of a new top-tier applied sciences campus in New York City and provide the city’s entrepreneurial community with the resources to start and grow companies, such as incubator space, investment capital, and networking opportunities, the NYC Turing Fellows Program will go a long way toward growing further the city’s thriving technology sector.”
Undergraduate and graduate students studying engineering or computer science can apply for a NYC Turing Fellowship at http://www.nycturingfellows.org. The application deadline is February 7. Fifteen finalists will be selected to have the opportunity to explore paid summer internship opportunities with leading New York City startups. Finalists who successfully secure a summer internship will receive $5,000 scholarships after completing their internships. All interns will benefit from regularly scheduled mentoring and networking programs throughout the summer. The combination of experiences aims to prepare students for long-term careers in technology startups upon graduation.
“We are enormously gratified by the broad and strong level of endorsement this program has received from our partners and the city, and we look forward to working closely with them to attract great tech talent to New York City,” said Canaan Partners’ Warren Lee.
