Pappy’s celebrates Hacker Day

Pappy’s Place, beloved by many Springfieldians for its tasty barbecue and cold beer, celebrates an institution of its own Friday at the 31st annual Hacker Day, with live music by The Garbonzos, the Blarney Brothers and Crazy Chester. The event honors the memory of longtime Pappy’s regular Jim Hacker, who died in 1993.

As the story goes, the first Hacker Day was held in 1980 after Hacker defied his doctors’ prediction that he had only six months to live. He went on to faithfully occupy his regular seat at Pappy’s five days a week for more than 13 years.

Pappy’s is at 943 N. Main Ave. There’s no cover charge.
