RAJKOT: A sports teacher in Gir Somnath district was arrested for allegedly molesting two students of Class V.
The incident came to light only after one of the victims refused to go to school.
The accused was identified as Nihar Barad, a resident of Sarkhadi village of Kodinar taluka.
He was working as a sports teacher in Ambada primary school of Gir Gadhada taluka.
According to the police, the accused had allegedly molested a class five student on July 28 during recess time.
The girl remained tense and she refused to go to school. When her parents sent her to school forcefully, she narrated her ordeal with another female teacher.
Girl’s parents also informed the school principal but he went on leave. The parents finally registered an FIR against Barad on August 10.
Manoharsinh Jadeja, superintendent of police, Gir Somnath district said, “During the investigation, we came to know that the accused had molested another girl in the past and her parents informed the principal but no strict actions were taken. We came to know that he had molested some more girls but parents did not come forward to register complaints due to social stigma.”
“In the case of the latest victim, parents were firm to register an FIR against him. The police also urged parents of other victims to come forward and register complaints. The police are also investigating the role of the school principal,” he said.
“A team of women police officers will do counseling of other girls to find out more victims,” Jadeja added.
