The Frederick Police Department responded to an emergency call from a home in Deerfield Place in Frederick around 7 p.m.
Responding officers found a woman identified as 45-year-old Samantha Annette Miner with stab wounds in her neck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Frederick police said the stabbing was caused by the woman’s son, identified as 19-year-old David Frederick Miner IV.
Miner IV was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and three counts of second-degree assault, WFMD reported.
Police also said he resisted his arrest when responding officers found him outside the house.
Officers had to use a stun gun in order to arrest him after he kicked several officers, according to WFMD.
Investigators working on the case interviewed Miner IV and the teen told them that he had been using drugs that day and had an urgent “desire to kill the family dog.”
In the interview obtained by WFMD, the teen’s mother reportedly tried to stop him after he grabbed a knife to kill the dog, then the teen stabbed his mother instead.
Police said he admitted to stabbing his mother, but could not remember clearly what happened. The teen’s father called the police after finding his wife in the house.
According to documents, the father asked his son what happened, to which he replied, “I killed mom.”
Miner IV is currently held without bond.
Frederick County is located in the northern part of Maryland.
