Even with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting schools district, the growth of students learning in the Ottawa Elementary School District is where it should be according to the Illinois State Board of Education. District Assistant Supt. of Curriculum and Assessment Christine Bucciareilli says all five schools were given a ranking of commendable, which means students are learning at a level that’s average to slightly above average level. She says the state used to only focus on proficiency in topics like Math and Literature, but now they are looking at the growth of students.
Other teachers from the five schools presented what they want to do to improve student’s academics in Math, English, Literature, and Art.
