📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

1) Someone rear-ended a Caltrans contractor’s vehicle on Thursday at around 5 a.m. The contractor was picking up cones “to reopen lanes on northbound SR-110 near 5th Street in downtown L.A.” The crash pushed the opening back to a much later time. (Caltrans District 7)

2) Bicyclists will notice the “parking-protected bike lane on 3rd St from Main St to Alameda St.” We learned on Friday that the construction on the installation was finished. Officials explain that the “new street design closes the gap of the 3rd street bike lane to support a more connected, bikeable downtown.” (LADOT)

3) If you have a high school teen between the ages of 14 and 18, they have until October 24 to turn in an application for the “L.A. Zoo Teen Council for Conservation program.” Participants receive an “educational stipend of $300.00 per month” and “will focus on issues surrounding conservation, social and environmental justice, and climate.” (LA Zoo)

4) The Hammer Museum at 10899 Wilshire Boulevard will be home to an exhibition celebrating writer Joan Didion. The event opens on October 11. “What She Means is being curated by another writer, Hilton Als, a New Yorker critic who became friends with Didion in New York and wrote the foreword to” the author’s final essays. (New York Times)

5) Mark your calendars! The annual AIDS Walk L.A. is coming back to West Hollywood Park, and we have a date. It is scheduled for October 16 beginning at 9 a.m. To get ready, “the West Hollywood Park dog parks and basketball courts will be closed on Saturday, October 15, 2022, and Sunday, October 16, 2022.” Drivers should be aware of lane closures on N. La Cienega Boulevard and surrounding roads. (WeHoVille)
