Traffic stop nets drug charges

Driver Cassie Stottler, 40, of Huntsville, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and received a felony count of possession of drugs as a result of an incident Wednesday evening.

Her passenger, Neil Mallow, 26, of Jackson Center, also was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Officers on patrol in the area near Russells Point on U.S. Route 33 noticed an eastbound vehicle driving without headlights about 6:35 p.m. and initiated the stop.

The driver was identified as Stottler and officers observed that she appeared very nervous and displayed suspicious behavior. Stottler was asked to exit the vehicle. When asked if she had anything illegal inside the vehicle, she advised that her friend gave her a bag, but she did not know what was inside the bag.

A vehicle consent search was granted and officers located several prescription pills inside her purse, along with a pill crusher and a red cut straw with a white residue inside it.

When asked about the pills, the defendant advised officers she had just left a bar in Lakeview with her friend. She advised that her friend and her friend’s boyfriend were fighting. Her friend gave her the pills so she would not go to jail if the police were called regarding the fight.

Stottler said she planned on throwing the items away once she got home. Officers also located marijuana and a marijuana bowl in the back seat next to Mallow
Mallow advised officers that the marijuana and bowl belonged to him. He was issued the summonses and released. Stottler was arrested transported to the jail.
