ROCK HILL, S.C. — School districts in the Palmetto State have been keeping a close eye on stats as they decide whether to require masks.

York and Chester counties have made masks mandatory.

The Rock Hill School Board is meeting Monday night, and comments from the public could lead to a discussion about whether masks should be required in the district.

A spokesperson for Rock Hill Schools has said the school board and administrators are reviewing the latest guidance on masks from the state Board of Education.

Officials also said that COVID-19 cases among young people, and in the county overall, have been trending downward.

Statistics from Oct. 3 through Oct. 9 show that there are 36 positive cases in students and nine positive cases among staff members in the district.

York County reported 305 confirmed cases on Sept. 10 and 58 on Oct. 9 – an 80% reduction in cases.

It is the Rock Hill School Board’s decision to decide on mask mandates in the district.

The board chair said they will give a COVID-19 update at Monday night’s school board meeting.
