BELLBROOK — Board members, Sugarcreek Township Trustees, Bellbrook City Council and the parks district are looking at ways to better protect their students.
Sugarcreek Township Police said the school district only has one part-time school resource officer who goes between the middle school and high school.
They’re wanting to change that and talk about possibly adding more SRO but a spokesperson for Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Schools said it’s going to cost money.

In a statement the district’s Superintendent Doug Cozad said:
“Student and staff safety is always a top priority for Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Schools, second only to their education. In talking with experts in many fields, we know that a layered approach is the best way to ensure the safety of those who are in our buildings on a day-to-day basis.”
This comes two weeks after the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek School Board approved a volunteer active shooter response team.
The school board said candidates for the response team will have to submit an application, undergo an interview process, pass a background check and mental health screening.
They will also have to complete at least 40 hours of training.
News Center 7 will give a breakdown of the meeting during WHIO-TV Tonight starting at 11 p.m.
