[PRESS RELEASE]
At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. It’s a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are.
The Exchange Center for Child Abuse Prevention is participating in #GivingTuesdayNow because now more than ever children, victims and survivors of child abuse and domestic violence being home may not be a safe option, and the unprecedented stress of the pandemic could breed unsafety in homes where violence may not have been an issue before. Violence in the home can also lead to adverse health and mental health outcomes, including a higher risk of chronic disease, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and risky sexual and substance use behaviors. We are worried that abuse could increase dramatically during this period of social distancing and quarantine. Research has found that stress and social isolation can raise the risk of abuse and domestic violence.

Due to the CDC social distancing regulations and Governor Kay Ivey’s Shelter in Place order, we have been forced to postpone two of our biggest fundraisers until the next fiscal year. This means that we will not have the funds needed to fund our prevention and counseling programs to its full capacity at a time when we need it most.
We are asking that the Wiregrass support us on #GivingTuesdayNow (May 5, 2020) so that we can continue to see clients and families during this time of uncertainty. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help sustain the loss of our Superhero 5K Run and Draw Down Event.
