Police in Kakiri, Wakiso district has arrested a primary school teacher for allegedly dealing in the illegal growth and sale of Marijuana.

The teacher, identified as Samuel Mugambwa, was arrested in a joint security operation carried out by police and sister agencies in areas of Masulita and Magoogo sub-county in Wakiso district.

According to Kampala Metropolitan police, they received information that there were big marijuana plantations in the said areas, which prompted the area DPC Hussien Mugarura to send a crack team which also comprised of UPDF soldiers.

The illegal marijuana which sat on more than 15 acres was destroyed by security teams in a combined effort.

The suspect, a teacher who was found in possession of sucks of Marijuana ready to be transported, said that he resorted to illegal trade of drugs due to the continued lockdown on educational institutions where he used to work and earn a living.

Mr. Muhammad Kiseka, the area mayor who was also present during the operation, attributed the illegal businesses in his area to the raising poverty levels and urged government to take immediate action in order to reduce the outcomes such as crime.

Police is currently detaining the suspect at Kakiri Police as investigations continue.
