127 Hours, the Oscar contender starring James Franco, was the most pirated film last week.
A DVD screener of the film has been circulating on torrent sites. It’s unclear whether the leaked copy is tied to Fox Searchlight‘s awards push, which has entailed sending out screeners to thousands of voters in the various voting groups. However, in an unusual step, Fox recently eschewed mailing screeners of 127 Hours to SAG‘s 100,000 members, citing security costs, instead making the film available for 48-hour viewing on iTunes.
Among the other most pirated films include other Oscar contenders including Inception, recently released on home entertainment, and True Grit, which is still going strong at the box office.

Meanwhile, in the music world, Britney Spears‘ latest single, “Don’t Hold It Against Me,” was released for sale on iTunes today. Before that happened, the song was leaked and became a hot commodity (it’s been described as her best work in years).
The leak may have caused Spears to push up the song’s release. Reportedly, the singer surprised fans by putting out the song on radio ahead of its iTunes release, although she innocently protested on Twitter that the early release came because she “couldn’t wait any longer.” Her new album drops in March — or so that’s the plan. The singer has a history of having her work leak early.
