Police spotted the 27-year-old in the the stolen ute in Mandjoojoordap Rd, Mandurah about 10.35pm last night and gave chase.

Police believe Gibbs is still in the Mandurah area because he was last sighted there, although Insp Munnee conceded he maybe somewhere else.

Gibbs, who uses the alias Paul Wright, was serving a six-year sentence for a range of offences including robbery, burglary, assault and driving offences.

A Department of Corrective Services spokesman said the matter was now under investigation and further details could not be disclosed for operational and security reasons.
