SAN FRANCISCO — The shooting suspect who allegedly killed the leader of the San Jose Hells Angels at a casino in Nevada was arrested Thursday, authorities said.
Ernesto Manuel Gonzalez was taken into custody after a University of California – San Francisco police sergeant saw him in a parking lot near the campus police station, according to CBS News. UCSF Police Chief Pam Roskowski said Sgt. John Gutierrez spotted a man inside a Chevrolet Malibu acting nervously. What followed was "just good old-fashioned police work," Roskowski said.
Gutierrez arrested Gonzalez without incident after asking for his keys and driver’s license – and conducting a quick background check that revealed his arrest warrant for the Nevada murder.
Gonzalez allegedly shot Jeffrey "Jethro" Pettigrew four times in the back at John Ascuaga’s Nugget hotel and casino, and he is being held in the San Francisco jail pending his extradition back to Sparks, Nevada.
Gonzalez was believed to be in hiding, sources said, and officials feared rival bikers would track him down before they could.
It wasn’t immediately known if Gonzalez has an attorney.
