A South Florida woman was arrested Christmas Eve after she allegedly attempted to use a stolen credit card to buy gas for a stolen vehicle while she was wearing stolen clothes. To top it off, the woman allegedly then jumped into the back seat of a stranger’s car at a Yulee gas station.

A Nassau County Sheriff’s deputy was called to the scene about 11 a.m. and arrested Tammy Marie Callahan, 47, of Margate.

Callahan reportedly knocked on the window of a car at the Sunoco gas station, 462544 State Road 200, then jumped into the vehicle and said, “I need help,” according to the arrest report. When the woman driver of the car told her to get out, Callahan reportedly began arguing with her, police said.

Callahan told the deputy she needed help, but would not say why, then provided a man’s driver’s license from a man’s wallet for identification, police said. When asked how she got there she told the deputy she drove a white Chevrolet pickup truck, which was parked nearby, then said she “pleaded the fifth,” police said.

An employee at the gas station reportedly told the deputy Callahan tried to purchase $20 in gas with a debit card, but didn’t know the PIN number, police said. When shown credit cards in the wallet in Callahan’s possession, the employee reportedly identified the one she attempted to use, police said.

The deputy discovered that the registered owner of the truck was the same man whose name was on the driver’s license and credit card, police said. Upon making contact with the owner, a Jacksonville resident, a dispatcher was told that the truck was stolen from his home earlier in the day and that his home had been burglarized, police said.

When the victim arrived, he identified items in the truck – a car seat, diet soda, a jacket, a vest, a bag of medical supplies and a stethoscope – that had been stolen from inside his home, police said. He also reportedly told the deputy that the clothes Callahan was wearing were also stolen from the home.

An officer from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was contacted and said he would seek warrants for Callahan on charges of burglary and grand theft of a motor vehicle, police said.

Callahan is being held in lieu of $32,506 bond at the Nassau County Jail on local charges of fraudulent use of a credit card, battery on a law enforcement officer, firefighter, emergency medical technician, etc., and trespass.

The battery charge stems from an incident where Callahan reportedly struck a nurse at Baptist Medical Center Nassau twice in the forearm while the nurse helped her change out of the allegedly stolen clothes, police said. The nurse had no visible injuries, police said, but Callahan allegedly admitted to striking her after she was taken to the hospital for observation.
