When having random conversations with people throughout the city of Atlanta about Atlanta Free Speech I often hear the question, “so why do you do what you do?” Well here is my answer. We do what we do at Atlanta Free Speech because we as a Black race are in very serious trouble, especially in how we perceive ourselves and embrace fully the culture of our oppressors. Have you ever wondered how is it possible that so many Black people love and adore the white race and white culture, despite the brutal mistreatment we have endured throughout history? How is it possible that so many Blacks perceive white society as being collectively of the highest ethics and morals of the human family despite a brutal history that includes lynchings, castrations, mutilations and Jim Crow laws that they forced upon us? Then when we look at where these systems of oppression have gotten us today: hating and killing each other, stealing, excessive drug use due to depression about life circumstances or the “culture” of our neighborhood and choosing not to educate ourselves on the political and social conditions of our communities. This is all possible because of the deployed psychological warfare program that they (whites) have had in place since they decided we needed to be “civilized.” It is important that we learn “our” history and the truth about the social, economic, political and psychological realities of people of color here in America. It is here at Atlanta Free Speech that we hope to contribute to the continued growth and advancement of our people by helping lift the veil from over our eyes about such subjects and truths so we can keep our eyes on the prize—true freedom!
