Security firm Seculert said that majority of the stolen passwords were from Facebook accounts in the UK and France.

The Ramnit worm has been affecting computers since April 2010. It is previously known as a malware that steals bank account details. Seculert‘s labs were able to discover the modified version of the Ramnit worm.

Facebook, world’s largest and most popular social networking site, is reportedly investigating the latest security issue.

A Seculert researcher said that the security firm “suspect that the attackers behind Ramnit are using the stolen credentials to login to victims’ Facebook accounts and to transmit malicious links to their friends, thereby magnifying the malware’s spread even further.” The researcher adds that “cybercriminals are taking advantage of the fact that users tend to use the same password in various web-based services to gain remote access to corporate networks.”
